Jaw Pain & TMJ Treatment in Kampala
Clicking, aching or locking jaw — find the cause and get lasting relief
TMJ Disorder Treatment at M Dental Care
The temporomandibular joints (TMJ) connect your jaw to your skull just in front of each ear. When the joint, its disc or the muscles that move it are strained, you get pain in the jaw, ear and temple, clicking or popping when you open, difficulty chewing and sometimes a jaw that locks. The usual causes are clenching and grinding, stress, an uneven bite, a jaw injury or arthritis.
At M Dental Care in Najjera–Kira, Kampala, we examine the joints, muscles and bite, rule out dental causes such as a wisdom tooth or abscess, and treat the real problem. Most TMJ pain improves with a custom splint, simple exercises and correcting whatever is overloading the joint.
Symptoms of TMJ disorder
- Pain or tenderness in the jaw, in front of the ear or in the temple
- Clicking, popping or grinding sounds when you open or chew
- Jaw that locks open or closed, or does not open fully
- Aching face, neck or shoulders and frequent headaches
- Ear pain or ringing without an ear infection
Consultation
UGX 20,000
A consultation is UGX 20,000, with an X-ray (UGX 50,000) if the joint or a tooth needs imaging. A custom night guard is quoted at your visit. If a dental problem is behind the pain — a Wisdom Tooth Removal or an abscess — that is treated at our usual prices.
Book AppointmentHow We Treat Jaw Pain
Night guard / splint
A custom occlusal splint rests the joint, stops grinding damage and relaxes the muscles. The most effective single treatment.
Bite correction
A high filling or crown, a missing tooth or crowding can overload one joint. Adjusting or restoring the bite balances the load.
Self-care and exercises
Soft diet during flare-ups, heat, gentle stretching and habit changes (no gum, no nail biting) settle most cases.
Referral when needed
Rare cases with joint damage or arthritis are referred to a specialist while we manage the dental side.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does my jaw click when I open my mouth?
The small disc inside the joint is slipping out of position and snapping back. Painless clicking often needs no treatment; clicking with pain or locking should be assessed.
Is jaw pain a dental problem or a medical one?
Most jaw pain is dental or muscular — grinding, bite problems, wisdom teeth or infection — so a dentist is the right first stop. If we find a medical cause we refer you.
Can TMJ pain go away on its own?
Mild flare-ups often settle in a few weeks with rest and a soft diet. Pain that keeps returning or a jaw that locks should be treated so it does not become chronic.
How much does TMJ treatment cost in Kampala?
A consultation at M Dental Care is UGX 20,000. A custom night guard, the most common treatment, is quoted after we examine you, and any bite correction is priced per tooth.
