A dental bridge fills the gap left by a missing tooth with a false tooth (pontic) that is held in place by crowns cemented onto the teeth on either side. It is fixed — you do not take it out — and it looks and works like natural teeth. Bridges are the quickest fixed option for replacing one or two missing teeth, and cost less than an implant.
At M Dental Care in Najjera–Kira, Kampala, bridges are made from porcelain fused to metal or all-ceramic materials, shade-matched to your teeth by our dental technician. A bridge is finished in two visits about a week apart, with a temporary bridge in between so you are never left with a gap.

Dental bridge
Fixed, two visits, no surgery. The neighbouring teeth must be crowned to carry it. Lasts 10–15 years with good care.
Dental implant
Fixed and independent of other teeth; preserves bone. Needs surgery and 3–6 months of healing. Longest lasting.
Partial denture
Removable and most affordable. Less stable than a bridge but easy to add teeth to later.

How a Bridge Is Made
1. Assessment
We check the neighbouring teeth, gums and bone with an X-ray to confirm they can support a bridge.
2. Preparation
The supporting teeth are shaped, an impression is taken and a temporary bridge is fitted.
3. Fitting
About a week later the finished bridge is checked for fit, bite and colour and cemented permanently.
4. Care
Brush normally and clean under the false tooth daily with floss threaders or interdental brushes.

How long does a dental bridge last?

An implant is the better long-term solution when the bone and budget allow, because it does not involve the neighbouring teeth. A bridge is faster, cheaper and avoids surgery. We advise honestly for your case.
Does getting a bridge hurt?
No. The supporting teeth are numbed during preparation and the fitting visit is painless. Mild sensitivity for a few days is normal.
